Ben Askren is currently a free agent, having had his contract with Bellator expire while holding the welterweight champion.
Many believe Askren will eventually sign with the UFC, but the promotion seems uninterested – at least from a public standpoint.
Well, after the controversial decision at UFC 167 involving UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and Johny Hendricks, along with GSP saying he was stepping away, the former Olympian jumped at the opportunity to make a bold statement.
“So I guess that makes me the undefeated, undisputed champion of the welterweight division,” Askren wrote on Twitter.
Askren (12-0) finished each of his last two opponents inside the Bellator cage after a series of decision victories.
