Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans tied an Octagon record Saturday night at UFC 167, but it came at the expense of his close friend Chael Sonnen.

Evans stormed after Sonnen and earned the first round TKO victory, tying UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell with his 13th win inside the division.

“Suga” and Sonnen work together at the FOX Sports analyst table, and, as Evans said after the bout, will do so again in a number of weeks.

“Me and Chael are close,” he added. “I like him a lot as a person. When you have to land those shots on somebody (you like), it’s hard to do.

“But that is the sport we play. We’re working together in three weeks; it’s all good.”

Evans (19-3-1) has now won two straight, adding to his split decision triumph over Dan Henderson from earlier this year. So, along with side job, what’s next for the former Michigan State University wrestler?

“I want to fight for a chance to get the title back,” Evans said. “I am willing to work to get there. I’m ready.”
